Who I iz

This post will probably be a bit of a disappointment to those of you who come for my pretty pictures, but I think it’s a post I should’ve done earlier.

While I was putting this blog together I decided to write under the alias of my main, as do many WoW bloggers. Unfortunately my main is of the opposite gender to myself, which has understandably caused some confusion. So here’s a post all about me, which will hopefully sort out some of this confusion & may even be of some interest.

For starters, here’s what I look like.

My name is Callum James Shire McKenzie, I was born on the 23rd of May, 1990. I live in Lower Hutt, New Zealand. I am the oldest of my 1 brother & 3 sisters.

I am currently attending Massey University Wellington, where I am studying a Bachelor of Design, majoring in Animation & Illustration. I’ve been drawing for most of my life, almost exclusively from imagination or rendering my favourite characters from TV, movies & games. It is only in the last few years that I have started drawing the human form, before then preferring to draw the monsters, aliens & robots that exist solely in my head.

I have been playing videogames for most of my life, my first experience being the PS1 & its abundant platformers. I then became a fan of the Final Fantasy games, foremost of which was FFIX. Slowly, I became more of a PC gamer as I discovered first RTSs, then FPSs. My first MMO was Star Wars Galaxies, which I never played past trial as I was too young to have a job. I only started playing WoW last year, having previously regarded it as a life-stealing pit of grind & tedium. As soon as I tried it however, I was hooked & since reaching end-game it has replaced almost all my other games.

I love to have lengthy discussions about politics, science, philosophy & religion, which I owe largely to my parents, my mother being an idealist who often embraces spirituality, my father being a realist & staunch athiest. This melding of ideas has given me a thirst for knowledge, which can often get in the way of most other aspects of my life (even WoW!). After finishing my degree I am hoping to move to the US for a while, though that is little more than a pipe-dream at the moment.

Anyway, that’s about all I can be bothered writing about me. But I hope that will clear up any lingering confusion as to my identity. Now, to get on with the scribbles that you actually come here for.
